white pimples labiaSo you’ve discovered a hideous new pimple on your face – maybe it’s on your forehead, on your cheek, or on your nose. Wherever it is, if you’re like most people, your first reaction is to pop that pimple! But is pimple popping really the best way to go about getting rid of pimples? In this article, we’ll discuss some of the things you need to consider before you start popping your pimples. We’ll also introduce you to an acne guide that could help clear up your pimples fast.

It’s really no secret that pimples are really hard to live with. If you’re like most young people, pimples make us very self-conscious, because they are often what people notice about us first. We see our pimples in the mirror, and assume that our co-workers, friends, and family are all staring them whenever they see us. Sure it’s probably “all in our heads,” but that doesn’t mean that pimples shouldn’t be dealt with.

Pimples are tricky. Even though they are extremely common, most people really have no idea how to properly treat them. The problem is that many of the things they’ve heard from other people are actually not helping. Normally, people will just go ahead and pop their pimples, and that sometimes works, but it far more likely that popping a pimple will just make things worse in the long run.

Common Myths About Pimples

We don’t know how these myths were created, but even in this day and age, many people still believe them to be true.

Myth #1 – Pimples are caused by too much dirt and bacteria on the face
This myth is widespread and especially dangerous when it comes to skin care. Because some people believe that it is just dirt and bacteria causing their pimples, they assume that washing their skin several times a day will solve the problem. However, not only does excessive washing not cure pimples, but it can also make things a lot worse by irritating the skin. When the skin is irritated, it tries to heal itself, causing pores to close up over hair folicles and, in turn, causing more breakouts.

Myth #2 – Pimples are caused by excess oil
Skin naturally produces oil. If it didn’t we’d all look like raisins by the age of twelve. The natural oils created by our skin are necessary to keep our skin soft. But the problem arises when those with oily skin start to use astringents and other oil-removing substances too much, which causes the skin to overcompensate by producing more oil which could lead to more pimples. You see, it’s not the oil that causes pimples. Rather, it’s when this oil gets caught in pores and hair follicles that causes outbreaks.

Myth #3 – Acne is something that you just grow out of
While some people do only get pimples in their teenage years, millions of people around the world are suffering from chronic adult acne. There’s simply no guarantee that a person will overcome their pimple problem when they reach a certain age. Worst of all, if the problem is not treated quickly, there is a good chance that they will have to deal with acne scarring which can leave permanent marks on the skin.  The truth is that pimples can happen to anyone regardless of age, because of the way pimples are formed. While teenagers are more prone to acne because of hormonal changes, dirt, oil, and bacteria collect on your face no matter what age you are. And if you don’t know how to prevent pimples, they could just keep coming.

Pimple Popping Side Effects

Popping a pimple may be the most direct way to get rid of an especially persistent one. Once you see one in the mirror, it’s often the only thing you can think about for the entire day. However, you really need to weigh the pros and cons before you decide to squeeze that pimple out of existence.

For one thing, popping pimples can simply lead to more severe blemishes. By popping them, you are essentially breaking the skin, and there is a good chance that you are introducing new bacteria into the wound. It’s very difficult to be completely sterile during the pimple popping process.

Another problem is that by squeezing, you could actually be forcing bacteria deeper into the pore, which could just cause a “deeper” more severe pimple just a few days down the road.

Worst of all, there is a good chance that popping a pimple could leave a permanent mark on our skin, something that expensive treatments at the dermatologist may not be able to remove.

How to Pop a Pimple

Ok, so you are still convinced that you need to get rid of this pimple… RIGHT NOW. In this case, you need to minimize the chances of making things worse by introducing more bacteria in the skin lesion. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • clean washcloth
  • 3 cotton pads
  • 1 pin
  • rubbing alcohol
  • 1 cotton ball
  • 1 small band-aid

Okay, before you go through with this, you absolutely need to make sure that your pimple is ripe for popping. If you can see that the puss inside the pimple is showing through the skin (i.e. a white dot in the middle of the pimple) then you can try to pop it. Do not, under any circumstances, attempt to pop a pimple that does not have the puss showing through the skin. This can cause a severe infection and you will most certainly regret it.

  1. If the pimple is ripe, run the washcloth under hot water and press it against the pimple to soften the skin.
  2. Take the rubbing alcohol and use it to disinfect the pin by wetting one of the cotton pads and using the pad to rub the pin. Be careful not to stab yourself with the pin while cleaning it.
  3. Next, prick the pimple gently in the white area. Take two of the cotton pads (on in each hand) and, using your two index fingers, squeeze the white puss from the pimple. Your objective is to make sure that all the white puss is removed. Once you see a clear liquid or blood emerge from the pimple, you can stop.
  4. Wet the cotton ball with some rubbing alcohol and press it against the pimple. This could sting a little, but you need to make sure that the wound is disinfected. Hold the cotton ball against the pimple for at least 5 minutes.
  5. Then, take the band aid and cover the wound.
  6. Finally, pray to the deity of your choice that the wound will not become infected. Hey – it’s not 100% foolproof, but we told you from the beginning that popping a pimple is not the way to go.

So if I can’t pop it, what can I do?
